Brouwersdam 2026-118 kites in the Sky
This year, we decided to make our annual trip to Brouwersdam a little more special and booked a full long weekend there. Every year, during the Ascension weekend, the Brouwersdam Quadline Meeting takes place.
It is a wonderful gathering where quadline flyers from different countries come together. Some fly individually, while others form teams and fly together. For us, it is always something special to be part of this international kite-flying community.
The weather wasn't exactly fantastic this year. The conditions were quite challenging at times, with rain, changing winds and periods where the wind simply disappeared. But, of course, that didn't stop the flyers!
And we had another reason to stop by: we picked up our new flying lines for team flying there. They were made to the correct length for team flying and are top-quality lines, supplied through vliegertakkitelines. http://www.vliegertakkitelines.nl/
A new world record! 🌍
Despite the difficult weather, something truly amazing happened.
A new world record was set for the largest number of quadline flyers flying together in formation: 118 flyers in the air at the same time!
And here's the funny part...
We had just gone to change our kite, so unfortunately, we weren't part of the formation ourselves. But we were there to watch it happen, and what a sight it was!
Seeing 118 kites flying together in formation was absolutely incredible.
Maybe next year the number will be 120...
And who knows? Perhaps we'll be up there with them! 😉
A rainy Friday morning
Friday morning started with rain, so it wasn't exactly the perfect moment to get our kites in the air.
Instead, we decided to visit Vliegerbedrijf De Paddestoel, a kite shop we know very well. We buy quite a lot of our kite equipment there, so we thought it would be nice to finally visit the shop in person and meet the people behind it.
And what a warm welcome we received!
What was supposed to be a quick visit turned into a wonderful conversation of almost two hours. It was really nice to see where many of our kites and accessories come from and, most importantly, to meet the people behind the shop.
After such a warm welcome and such a great conversation, buying our kite gear there feels even more special.
It's not just a shop anymore, now we know the people behind it too. 🪁💙
Even though the weather wasn't always on our side, Brouwersdam 2026 gave us plenty of great memories, new experiences and wonderful moments with fellow flyers.
And that 120-flyer formation?
We'll keep that one in mind for next year...
Maybe we'll be part of it in 2027! 😉
